Katsucon 6 (2000)

CONSTRUCTION COMMENTS

This one was a little deceptive. I thought it would be extremely easy to pull together! I was lucky enough to find the exact colors for each part. The dress itself was easy. The rest... well, took me while to figure out how to get the detail correct. The stripes on the dress are appliqued. The hardest part on that was getting the proportions and the angles right. The shoes were... interesting. Getting that collar on the boots so I can still tie them like normal was no easy task. It was a lot of trial and error. The dress collar also gave me trouble, but in a moment of half-asleep inspiration at 2am, I modified my Sailor Moon collar, and viola!

SPECIAL NOTES

Some friends had already made costumes from the game for AWA and Nekocon in 1999, and the costumes intrigued me when I saw them in the con reports. They wanted to get a full group together, so I offered to do Mia. I already had a pattern for it and it seemed easy to make (compared to what I've done, anyway). Plus it was something completely different to Sailor Moon! (Change is good, ne?)

I did buy the game. It's actually really fun to play. I don't play video games, but I like this one. Haven't gotten very far tho!

I got the costume done for Katsucon2000, and well, it was convincing enough that nobody recognized me! (Everyone that didn't know I was making the costume, that is...)

I later entered this in Otakon 2000's costume contest, but only received a judges award from Jeff Thompson... Apparently Mia is his favourite Lunar character! He was sweet.

I'm still glad I made the costume. It's become a surprise favourite.
